Lunch Club

Age Concern Chelmsford’s Lunch Club is a great place for people in the area to socialise while enjoying a nutritious meal – whether that’s every day during the week or just now and again.

Who doesn’t enjoy food and drink with friends in a warm and welcoming environment?

Age Concern exists to combat loneliness and isolation. Our lunch club in central Chelmsford helps you and your loved ones to keep active with a regular, disability-friendly, event at which they are safe and supported.

We provide a space for friendships to grow and everyone, including our wonderful volunteers, enjoys the social interaction with our guests.

Some choose to come to our lunch club meal with their friends or relations or simply join us as a chance to get to know new people in an easy, relaxed environment.

There’s no pressure – so you have the option of attending every day (weekdays) or just occasionally. It’s entirely your choice!

High quality food lovingly prepared and served

Our delicious meals are handmade fresh on-site in our 5-star hygiene rated kitchen by our fantastic team.

On arrival there is the opportunity to enjoy a hot drink and a chat before lunch, so many of our guests arrive around 10:30am.

Lunch is served daily at 12:00pm by our friendly volunteers and staff.

Lunch Club FAQs

Aside from ensuring you receive a high quality, nutritious, hot meal, there are social benefits to attending. Coming to our Lunch Club helps guests build confidence in going outside the home as well as encouraging participation in new activities. Lunch Club is also a great opportunity to meet new people and form friendships that can continue at home.

Many people we support yearn for company and conversation – the hot, freshly-cooked main meal is an enjoyable bonus. Though lunch is served at 12 noon, guests can arrive at 10:30am for a hot drink and a chat. Periodically, we also offer entertainment in the form of speakers, quizzes and activities after lunch.

Not at all! While we offer a single meal option per day, we do have quite an extensive rotating menu. For example, recent menus have featured Quiche Lorraine, Pork Chops, Shepherds Pie, Roast Chicken, Fish in Parsley Sauce, Lasagne, Chicken in Wine & Mushrooms, Salmon & Lemon Dill Crumb, Stuffed Pork Loin, Mince & Onion Pie, Roast Lamb, Steak & Kidney Pudding, Fish & Chips, Beef in Red Wine, Chicken Casserole, Roast Beef, Roast Gammon, Fish Pie, BBQ Chicken, Sausage Casserole, Liver & Bacon – and we haven’t even discussed dessert options yet!

We do cater for dietary preferences when advised in advance such as meat, fish or gluten free. However. although every care is taken we cannot 100% guarantee that our food is free from nuts or other specific allergens as we operate from a single kitchen. So if you have a severe allergic reaction to any allergen we ask you to make us aware of this before dining.

We support wheelchair users with supportive staff, wide access, level surfaces and a lift. There is an accessible toilet located on the same floor as Lunch Club activities.

Our two course hot meals cost just £7 per day – you can’t beat that for value! We don’t scrimp on portions either – just look at those food photos above. If we lay on entertainment or a quiz, there’s no charge for that. Some special celebration meals, such as Easter or Christmas, may cost more but include wine and other extras.

You can pay on the day with cash or card or pre-pay for a period via Bank Transfer.

No, you don’t have to sign up for every day. We offer this service to support independent living, so we recognise that you may have other activities going on during a week. Equally, we’re happy to see you for a meal every day and you’re most welcome. We offer our Lunch Club completely on your terms.

We have limited off-street parking at the Centre and there are on-street spaces for Blue Badge holders if you’re driving. If not, Community Transport Services can help you get to and from our Lunch Club (subject to availability). Alternatively, there is a good public transport network with nearby bus stops (100yds) and a train station, as well as public car parks. Once you’ve built up friendships you may decide to travel together.
